When should we book our wedding photographer?

As early as possible!!!  Most weddings are on Saturdays.  Typically, a wedding photographer can only shoot one wedding per day.  Once the photographer is booked for a given date he cannot book another wedding for that date.  Book your wedding photographer as soon as possible to guarantee that you have a photographer who is available for your wedding date.

What pictures do we need for our wedding?

You should get all the pictures you want.  Your wedding will only happen once, so plan the photos you want to remember it with prior to the wedding.  There are many different types of wedding pictures to choose from.  Some examples include: photos of the bride taken in her wedding gown on location, pre-wedding close ups of your immediate family, the wedding processional, time exposures of the wedding service, the recessional, full length pictures at the alter, wedding party members, family, extended family, parents, grandparents, and the Bride and Groom.  Then, its off to the reception.  Discuss all the options available with your Houston wedding photographer and get the wedding package that's right for you.

What can we do to help the wedding photographer get the the best pictures of our wedding?

Giving the wedding photographer a list of the names of people he does not know will not help.  You should select an official "pointer" to assist the photographer.  Pick someone who knows who Aunt Susie and Uncle Johnny are. This person should not have any other responsibilities during the wedding (Should not be Mother, Father or wedding party member).

What wedding photographer should we hire in the Houston area?

Hire one who has wedding pictures you like, one that you can afford and one that has a personality you can live with 2-12 hours during your wedding day.  We have all heard horror stories about wedding photographers whose equipment failed and the Bride and Groom had no photographs of their weddings. Hire a wedding photographer who brings lots of back up equipment.  We believe, three cameras and three back up flashes is a good start. Few photographers have this much extra equipment on hand.

What about black and white wedding pictures?

Black and white wedding photographs can be spectacular.  If your wedding is shot in all color, the pictures can also be printed in black and white.  It takes an expert to tell the difference between black and white photographs shot on color negatives rather than true black and white.  Remember color negatives can be printed in black and white, but black and white negatives cannot be printed in color.  Make sure your Houston wedding photographer shows you both color and black and white pictures.  Kyle Searle Photography has shot entire weddings in black and white.  However, most couples like a mix with very few black and white pictures.
